Property Description: The guesthouse was designed in 1973 by Kevin Borland who subsequently received an Architectural Award for his cutting edge design. Guests will recognise something of the style and feel of a ski lodge. More importantly, there are particular elements that attest to the architect's forward-looking ideas at the time. The building is elevated on poles, with numerous split levels that mirror the slope of the terrain. And, like a multi faceted jewel, there are angles at every turn, while windows at all these different levels and angles, bring natural light and views into the rooms. The building's sensitive design makes a significant contribution to Amarant's Advanced Eco Accreditation status with EcoTourism Australia.
The cosy internal spaces have a particular affinity with nature, largely due to the natural finish of the timber clad walls and ceilings, as well as the windows that frame peaceful bush scenes outside. The temperate rainforest surroundings, including Amarant's own 25 acres, are a wonderland of towering mountain ash and verdant tree ferns. In addition to the sight and sounds of the natural environment, the fresh bushland smell is another vital dimension to the total experience.
The multi level guesthouse has a series of suites to cater for individuals, couples, families and small groups. Suites can be taken together to accommodate groups of more than 6 and sole occupancy is available for up to 16 people. Communal guest areas include a formal lounge with a licensed bar, a deck and a conversation pit with a slow combustion wood fire. The separate guest dining room also has a deck and a conversation pit around a wood fire. Both these rooms capture the spectacular bird's eye view, framed by treetops, to the valley spread out far below. Original artworks by your host, Rhonda Steller, and other local artists adorn the walls throughout the tastefully decorated interior.
|
Special Features: The Guest Dining Room at Amarant can be the venue for a special chef prepared meal, or something more casual such as hearty comfort food, wood fired pizzas or perhaps an informal barbecue prepared by your hosts. Transfers to nearby restaurants, hotels or wineries are another option.
The bar in the Guest Lounge offers an extensive range of beverages. The cellar has an excellent selection of Australian wines collected by 'wine buff', Mark Steller.
The 25 acre property backs onto National Park. Guests can explore tracks on the property and through the park. One of these walks, to View Point (about 1 hour return), will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the valley below.
Amarant can organise a wide variety of special Yarra Valley packages to suit particular interests, such as Nature Tours, Farm Gate or Winery Tours, Day Spa Treatments, Ballooning, etc.

Function / Conference Facilities:
Amarant Yarra Valley can cater for up to 16 attendees. The "Celestial Room" is a typically equipped conference space, ideal for small group meetings, yoga, meditation, self development, craft groups, small weddings and commemorative occasions. The Guest Dining Room can seat up to 16 for meals.
