The Business
Great Places to Stay was first conceived by Cherryl Houben (then a video producer/director) and her partner, Neville Franks (a successful software developer/publisher). The web site first appeared online in 2000. By early 2002 the site had grown to a monthly traffic of around 5,000 unique visitors and a selection of some 90 properties from around Victoria. March 2002 the company acquired another existing web site Weekend Retreats which has been redeveloped to promote a small, exclusive collection of quality properties.
In January 2006 Great Places to Stay achieved monthly traffic of over 18,000 unique visitors, with 152 properties.
In June 2012 Great Places to Stay was purchased by Ray Menzies a successful, Melbourne-based businessman, with over 30 years experience in IT. Amongst other things he developed software which has been installed in more than 50 of the top 100 companies in the USA.
