Hepburn Springs
Hepburn Springs has much to offer to soothe and relax a body,
suffering from the effects of our hectic pace of life. There is a pool
and spa complex with health-giving baths, a salt bath and a floatation
tank. Professionals provide therapeutic massages. Anyone can sample the
various mineral springs, each with its own often strange and distinctive
taste, but they all contain beneficial micro-nutrients. And if mineral
water is not to your taste, visit one of more than twenty picturesque
wineries in the region.
Macedon Ranges & Mt Macedon
A cool climate, elevation, rich soils and experienced winemakers combine
to produce a wide range of rich reds, crisp whites and the classic sparkling
"Macedon". The region's wines are gaining increasing recognition
overseas and have gained many awards and trophies in Australia.
The Macedon Ranges are noted for their grand residences and magnificent
gardens which are open to the public in April when they are at their best.
A visit to the region is rewarding at any time of the year with alfresco
dining in summer and dinner by an open fire during the blaze of autumn
colours. Accommodation ranges from country retreats to spa resorts and
wineries, luxury bed and breakfasts and secluded cottages.
The natural beauty of the ranges landscape is quite breathtaking. Ancient
boulders, rocky outcrops, mountains and forests are interspersed with
farmland and wineries. Trentham Falls at 32 metres is the highest single-drop
waterfall in Australia. The mysterious Hanging Rock, a long dormant volcano
with its fascinating geological structures, featured in the haunting film
classic "Picnic at Hanging Rock". Take a walk in the famous
Lederderg Gorge cut 300 metres into the sandstone and split by the Lederderg
River.
If your interests incline to more organised activities, there is always
golf, tennis, cricket in summer, horse races and even trail riding for
those slightly more adventurous.
