Rarely do you find low cost accommodation that offers the quality and style found at the Play Shack houses.

Your Victorian High Country experience, whether it's about hitting the ski slopes, or hiking, fishing, horse riding and 4WD adventures, from spring through summer, deserves to be complemented with well presented, comfortable accommodation. Play Shack 1 and/or Play Shack 3 are both more than comfortable and ideally located to access the mountain, earning glowing praise from those who stay.

Property Description:
At the foot of Mt Buller, off the main road, nestles a cluster of houses amongst woodlands at a place known as Sawmill Settlement. Many of the houses here are the High Country weekenders and private retreats of skiers. So too are Play Shack 1 & 3 and you can be sure they offer warm and cosy accommodation in the depths of winter, with the kinds of facilities that skiers look for - drying rooms and storage for ski gear, lots of hot water and plenty of beds for family and friends. Both houses have three bedrooms. Using a shortcut to Play Shack 3, located in Finch Street, you can easily get back and forth between the two, which means a large group could conveniently occupy both.

The two houses have differing styles. Play Shack 1 has undergone a dramatic renovation that has transformed it into a very attractive, contemporary house. Owned and operated by leading Melbourne interior designer, Inside Out, the finishes and furnishings display top to bottom professional attention. The open plan living area offers a spacious lounge with sleek leather sofas, and glass doors onto the deck at the front which has outdoor dining furniture. The house faces beautiful mountain views framed by trees, including deciduous exotics that turn brilliant colours in autumn.

The kitchen is a gleaming modern design with an island bench and a set of stools. At the far end of the open plan space is the dining area with glass doors to the back yard and woodland outlook. This section of the room sits under a new roof line, with high windows bathing the area in natural light. The use of feature colours in different rooms, matching roman blinds, and complementary artwork, ensure that each room is distinctive. The luxury appointments extend to beautiful bedroom furniture and elegant bedside lights.

Play Shack 3 is quite different in character. The rustic exterior is natural finish weatherboard with a long front verandah. The interior walls are also lined in timber - in a honey coloured pine. Together with the choice of modern, pale timber furniture it captures something of a Scandinavian look and feel - a style that seems especially appropriate in the snow season. Well chosen light fittings, bedside tables, wall art and shelf units, in addition to the key, quality furniture pieces, raises the level of this house above the average weekender.

The open plan living area has a cosy wood fire in the corner and a large L shaped lounge suite. The 10 seater plus dining table can cater for a full house, and in warmer weather the large rear deck with its barbecue serves for outdoor dining. The garden is a simple affair of trees, rugged plants and open expanses with borrowed woodland views.

Play Shack 1 (pictured above & right)

The main bedroom has a king size bed, reverse cycle air-conditioning and a large window with a woodland outlook. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and the room opens onto the deck with mountain views. The third (bunk) bedroom has two doubles and two singles. Each bedroom has electric heating panels. The bathroom has a full size bath, a separate frameless glass shower, a heated towel rail and endless hot water.

The kitchen is equipped with large fridge, full stove/oven, dishwasher and microwave. The lounge is equipped with reverse cycle air-conditioning, television, DVD, video and CD players. There is a fully equipped laundry and a secure ski storage/ drying room. Attached to the house is a double carport.


Play Shack 3 (pictured below)

There are two bedrooms with queen size beds and a bunk room with 5 single bunk beds and one double bunk bed. The living room has a queen size sofa bed. The bathroom has a shower with endless hot water. There is a second toilet located separately.

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, gas cooktop, toaster and microwave. The lounge is equipped with television, DVD, video and CD players. A fully equipped laundry has storage/ drying room for skis. All rooms have heating. The house has a single carport and a large deck.

Midweek: $300 for a single night. $200 per night for two or more nights

Midweek: $400 for a single night. $350 per night for two or more nights
Weekly: $2250 for seven nights


Summer Peak - December through January
Weekend (Fri & Sat): $600 for two nights
Midweek: $350 for a single night. $300 per night for two or more nights
Weekly: $1100 for seven nights

Winter Peak rates apply to long weekends

Linen can be supplied at $25 per bed

Minimum Stay: Two nights on weekends. Three nights on long weekends.
Deposit: $500 security bond
Cancellation Terms: With 60 days' notice or more - $200. Less than 60 days' notice - 50% of tariff payable. Changes to dates requested within 60 days' of arrival (with the same or greater value) will incur a $75 admin fee.
