Property Description: The Victorian cottage-style homestead was built around 1892 on a dairy property of 160 acres. In those early pioneering days it became a prize Jersey stud. Today the property is a manageable 20-acre hobby farm running Hereford and Angus stock, and the timber homestead has been renovated and extended in sympathy with its original character. Over the years, the cottage garden has grown too, with mature trees providing shade and structure as well as framing the rural vistas beyond the garden perimeter. The traditional verandah at the front of the house is the preserve of guests; the Evison Room has its own private entrance off the verandah. Guests are equally welcome to share the large deck off the family room or seek out the secluded lower garden deck.
The home is elegantly furnished with antiques and charming period details complemented by a muted colour scheme of pale yellow, cream, fawn and white. There is accommodation for two couples in the main house, with breakfast served in the family room. The more formal Batema Suite has a beautiful brass bed, an ensuite and a separate lounge with an open fire. The more casual country style Evison Room (pictured above) has a quaint sitting area outside on the verandah and a large private bathroom with a traditional claw foot bath.
Accommodation for two is also available in the separate studio style cottage that was once the cream room of the original dairy complex. This cottage incorporates corrugated iron and natural timber as interior features to add a rustic character to the none the less luxurious furnishings. With an ensuite and a kitchenette, the creamery cottage can be a completely private hideaway.

Special Features: Springbank is not only somewhere to indulge in a lavish cooked breakfast (if they wish, cottage guests may upgrade to breakfast served in the house for a small extra charge), but dinner is also something to consider.
With prior notice, your hosts can prepare a three course set menu, featuring local seasonal produce, served in the formal dining room; candlelit by the open fire for the full romantic effect.
Local wines are available at reasonable prices.
On weekends and through summer it is also possible to enjoy a more casual dinner cooked outdoors, including Italian style pizzas, fish or beef roast done in an authentic clay oven (for 4 people minimum).
Even more casual, try a platter for two with local cheese, meats and fruit.
Check prices with your hosts, who are also happy to help with booking local restaurants and will transport you there if required.
