Property Description: Wombat Bend is a five-acre property, set in a small valley just east of the Melba Highway, ten minutes drive north of Yarra Glen.
In a quintessential Australian landscape, a quiet parkland of shady eucalypts, acacias and a prolific variety of native flora, nestle two discrete dwellings. Both are built in mudbrick and timber. One is home to the owners and the other is the cosy guest cottage known as The Burrow. All sight lines lead the eye to the tranquil billabong at the heart of the property. It is abundantly evident, from the water's edge to the treetops, this environment is a bountiful paradise for indigenous birdlife.
Entry to the The Burrow is through its own private carport, leading to the verandah which surrounds the cottage. The covered verandah is the place for spending time, whether it be watching the sunset over the water, breakfast on a sunny morning, or just relaxing most any time of day.
The welcoming interior contains many heirloom pieces of cedar furniture and personal treasures of the owners, which contribute to the sense of 'home', a feature consistently noted by guests. The warm timber walls of the lounge room are hung with many botanical art paintings, and book-filled shelves offer hours of browsing. A colour theme of blue and white accessories echoes pure country simplicity in the chinaware, checked curtains and tablecloths.
The down to earth, homespun character of the cottage is apparent in the bedroom also. The room's mudbrick walls are rich in texture and finished in soft cream, as well as rendering a luxurious quiet to the space.
Snug is a good word to describe the The Burrow, even so it is spacious by many standards especially for two people, with ample windows to maintain the closeness to the landscape.

Special Features: Guests are encouraged to connect with the landscape, whether strolling around the billabong, feeding or photographing the birds, learning about their environment and the habitat that has been created at Wombat Bend. The property also cultivates personal relaxation and stillness, with comfortable cane lounges under the shady trees in summer, or in winter, catching the northern sunshine on the verandah.
The forest nearby invites walks through the quiet bushland where wildflowers and occasional kangaroos and wallabies are seen, especially in winter and spring.
A complimentary bottle of De Bortoli sparkling wine, with fruit and cheese, awaits guests on arrival.
