General information about Victoria, Australia for first time visitors
Victoria has a temperate climate range. This means crisp winters with a comparatively short snow season in the alpine regions, and quite hot dry summers.
The geography is probably the most diverse of any Australian State. Beyond the city lights of Melbourne, Victoria is known for its wild coastlines, majestic forests, fern gullies, fertile river valleys, lakes and wetlands, old volcanic plains, protected bays, surf beaches, arid deserts, rugged mountains and wilderness areas.
