Victoria's Dandenong Ranges, around an hour's drive from Melbourne, share a quite unique English tradition with positively beautiful native forest environs. Well known Sherbrook Forest is one of smaller forests where the Puffing Billy tourist steam train begins its journey. Emerald Lake is a popular picnic spot. The Dandenongs is also renown for its English gardenscapes. In Autumn the deciduous European trees provide a glorious specatcle, while in spring the National Rhododendron gardens are a dazzle of massed bloom and the famous tulip farm attracts thousands of visitors to see the fields of tulips and partake in the festivities.
