The average elevation of the tablelands is approximately 700 metres above sea level. The Euroa - Mansfield Road is the main route across the area. Good navigating skills are useful if you stray onto some of the smaller of the unsealed roads. Euroa is the largest town associated with the Strathbogie Ranges. Seven Creeks, the single large creek that runs through the centre of Euroa comes from seven streams high in the ranges, eventually joining the Goulburn River. The region is known historically for large sheep stations and for some of the notorious exploits of Ned Kelly. More recently, it's become known for horse breeding and boutique wineries (e.g. The Falls, Maygar's Hill, Baarrooka, Elgo Estate and Sunnymeade). |
